The Natural Momma Minute: Gardening

by Lisa on May 1, 2012

Gardening to some can see overwhelming. It was overwhelming and still is slightly to me even though growing up we always had a garden. In our economy right now, many people are trying to seek ways to save money and one can be food. We also are living in a time where there are more and more foods getting genetically modified or sprayed with chemicals. I don’t know about you but I want to eat PURE unadulterated food. I want eat as much LIVE food as I can! I also LOVE the idea of saving money and love the idea of feeling like I am trying to help the environment and live a more sustainable self sufficient lifestyle. One of the ways I have found to do that is gardening. You may have heard about the surge in prices that we have seen and will see for much of our food. You don’t have to let that worry you. Plant your own garden at a fraction of th cost overall and buy extra seeds to save for future use as well.

For many years, we didn’t have the space to do a traditional garden and so I didn’t. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I tried container gardening that I saw “the light”. I was limiting myself to only being able to garden in the actual soil and I felt I had to have x amount of space to achieve the garden I wanted.

This year I am doing my square foot garden for the second year. I already have spinach, peas and tomatoes in. Next is another row of peas and some swiss chard. I will be planting: broccoli, green beans, cucumber, zucchini, beets, carrots, onions. That is my list now. I still am pondering on a few others plus building another garden box! What are your plans?

I was asked while I was pregnant with my 5th child (7th pregnancy), to facilitate a webinar about using doTERRA Essential Oils in Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond.

Click HERE to go directly to the recorded webinar!

I have been using essential oils off and on for 10 plus years. In short, I was not happy with the products and results (or lack thereof) that I received. I did however have my staple Lavender, Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree Oil for various things from using them with myself and children to my doula work. When I found doTERRA in 2009, I fell in love with the products and results. I immediately used it then with my childbirth education/Hypnobabies students, doula clients and then with my own pregnancy, birth and postpartum (still using them daily in many ways!)

I loved using peppermint and digestzen for nausea, geranium-lemon-ginger-lavender for pg induced edema, deep blue for sciatica and joint pain, citrus bliss-elevation-balance for uplifting mood and hormonal balance. I used deep blue for pressure waves with back discomfort, citrus bliss to keep me positive and determined. Lavender for calming. After birth I used DeepBlue for afterpains, Helichrysum for sore cracked nipples, a mix of many in my peri bottle for perinium healing. Citrus Bliss to keep me upbeat in the am and Serenity in the pm to calm me and baby to sleep. Serenity in the early days and still for help with being positive through all my breastfeeding challenges up to I am now taking Basil to increase milk supply too. There is SOOOOOOOOOO many things I could tell you. Listen in to the webinar and if you would like to hear more about how YOU can use this with your pregnancy, birth and beyond or use it with your childbirth education or doula services.
